Known as the City of Rings, Dammenheim is home to some 7 million souls in a sprawling metropolis. Every race under the sun dwells somewhere in this seemingly endless city. Coalitions of guilds runs various districts, each reporting to a Commissioner. Commissioners in turn report to the Dammenheim City Council, which is overseen by its Mayor. The Mayor is an elected position, with terms lasting 10 years. The Council has one representative from each of the 140 wards of the city. Every decade, the city re-elects its Council, which then elects for itself a Mayor, who cannot be a Councilman. Most Mayors are chosen from elite guilds in the city, or from ranking members of the city guard, a standing military and police force.
Dammenheimers mark their allegiances with assortments of rings, and refer to any from beyond the city as Wilders. A few farming villages surround the city, helping keep the population fed, and these folk are spared the title of Wilder. Dammenheim has no contact with other major political powers in the world, and instead deals with minor monster attacks, bandit uprisings, and the occasional barbarian tribe. Dammenheim lauds itself as the one true bastion of civilization; it is a center of learning, the arts, engineering, arcane study, temple worship, politics, mercantile exchange, crime, adventuring, scholarship, and economic growth.
The Market Ward is the destination you probably care most about, home to hundreds of shops, emporiums, stalls, and other synonyms for places to buy things. The ward’s motto is Coin is King, and most anything can be purchased here for full price. As such, when a character is in Dammenheim, you may purchase any Paizo published, non-unique, non-artifact magic item with the appropriate amount of coin here. In addition, you may sell any item here for 30% listed value. These amounts may shift if your party gains notoriety, earns favors, or otherwise earns discounts.
